Mahindra to introduce 4 new products by 2015-16

Mahindra & Mahindra, India's largest SUV maker is all set to introduce at least four new products in the country by 2016. Mahindra Research Valley (MRV), Chennai is developing 4 new platforms for small, commercial, utility, special utility and light commercial vehicles. It is the same R&D where the company developed some of the successful products including Mahindra XUV 500, Quanto and Verito.

Speaking to Business Standard, Pawan Goenka, executive director and president (automotive and farm equipment), Mahindra & Mahindra said that the development for the vehicles in four new platforms already started in the valley and they would be launched from 2015-16.

A light commercial vehicle is also under development, which will be based on a new platform. "This will completely be a new vehicle. Works have been started and it will take around three-and-a-half years to launch the product, which will take on Tata's offerings," Goenka said.

The vehicle below 3.5 tonne will be designed at Mahindra Research Valley, while vehicles over 3.6 tonne will be at Pune. "Truly, this is the centre of excellence for bringing out new innovative products. It also helps to shorten the development cycle," he said.
