Volkswagen dealers across the nation has stopped taking bookings for the Passat premium sedan. It has been surprising to see that the company didn't sold even a single unit of the saloon in the last two months in India. This has created some doubts in our minds, as we contacted VW's dealers across the country. It is now confirmed that Volkswagen has halted the Passat production, and will introduce the new 2014 Passat in the Indian car market by early 2014.
On being contacted, VW dealers confirmed that due to halt of production the deliveries for the dealers are also stopped. When we asked about the bookings, the dealer denied that their is no availability of premium sedan and pre-orders will only start once the company announced the new model.
The 2014 Passat model will be based on Volkswagen's very popular MQB platform and the new model will be launched in 2014. The new model is also expected to get an all-new engine as well. It will be powered by a new biTDI diesel engine that churns out a maximum power output of 200bhp. The other engines will remain the same 1.4L, 1.8L and 2.0L, which belts out a max power output between 130 and 250bhp.
