BMW 2-Series Active Tourer MPV has been spotted during its official photo shoot. The vehicle was showcased as the 'BMW Concept Active Tourer' at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, and it was earlier called as the 1-Series based MPV.
It will be the company's first ever front-wheel drive vehicle. The new model will be made available in both five-seat and seven-seat options. While the five-seater version of the MPV will be introduced by early 2014, the 7-seater MPV will be launched by the end of the next year. It is also expected that BMW will unveil the 2-Series Active Tourer MPV at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March 2014.
BMW's Active Tourer MPV is based on the UKL1 front-wheel drive platform, which also underpins the new MINI range. The same platform will also be used for several other vehicles in the coming years including new 1 Series and 2 Series.
Under the hood, the 2-Series Active Tourer will get the three-cylinder 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo petrol and diesel engine. These engines are also powering the new MINI range. The petrol motor will be tuned to offer different output figures ranging from 122bhp to 224bhp, while the diesel motor will be offered in 82bhp to 184bhp power output range.
The new BMW 2-Series Active Tourer will feature an elevated seating configuration with ample space, rear seats with 40:20:40 split. It offers a decent luggage carrying capacity of 400-litres. The MPV sports a large panoramic roof as well.
